This is the highest number of youth qualifiers in over 5 years. We averaged 8 qualifiers per year from from all levels since 2010. This year Trinity will have sent 17 wrestlers to the state tournament with 8 in youth and 9 in Junior High. Great job Hiller wrestlers and coaches
Michael Kalosky (113 lbs) and Cameron Reynolds (132 lbs) reach the semis for the Hillers. Both will face the top seeds at their weight class. Kalosky will face Franklin Regional’s 2-time PIAA Champion Devin Brown and Reynolds will meet Luke Pletcher of Greater Latrobe, also a 2-time PIAA Champion. Robert West (220 lbs) drops into the consolation bracket after a quarterfinal loss. Austin Fife (285 lbs) also will be wrestling in the consolations after a win getting a win to stay alive. Two more Hillers had their seasons come to an end. Evan Parkinson (106 lbs) and Tony Steadman (126 lbs), each suffered a loss in the consolation round last night.
Trinity Seniors Cameron Reynolds (132lbs) and Robert West (220 lbs), along with Sophmore Michael Kalosky (113 lbs) remain in the Championship bracket after first round victories. Evan Parkinson (106 lbs), Tony Steadman (126 lbs) and Austin Fife (285 lbs) all remain alive in the consolation bracket after first round losses. In the preliminary round Steadman picked up a win to remain alive, while fellow Juniors AJ Marino (120 lbs) and Gino Cecchine (138 lbs) dropped tough decisions.
In Wpialwrestling.net’s latest rankings 5 Hillers earned a spot in the top 12 at their weight class. Leading the way is Trinity Senior ranked #3 at 220lbs Robert West. The other Hillers in the top 12 are Michael Kolosky #4 at 113, Tony Steadman #12 at 126, Cameron Reynolds #8 at 132 and Austin Fife #10 at 285. The top 4 in this weeks WPIAL Championships earn a trip to Hershey next week. The last Hiller to make it to the State Tournament was Kyle McWreath (2011). While it looks favorable that this will be the year the drought is ended. There is no such thing as an easy weight class this week at Penn Hills. Some may be harder but none are easy. So Good Luck this week to the 8 qualifiers, wrestle hard and make sure Coach Powell and company have another week left in this season.
After the WPIAL Section 4 qualifier, Trinity Varsity wrestling has 8 wrestlers moving on. Representing the Hillers at this weeks WPIAL Championships will be.
